Paratypes: CAS 35242 [ex IU 11973] (1). Type catalog: Henn 1928:79 [ref. 12305], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:19 [ref. 12367], Ferraris 2007:58 [ref. 29155]. Appeared first as name only in Eigenmann 1910:380 [ref. 1224]. •Valid as Dysichthys amaurus (Eigenmann 1912) -- (Mees 1988:90 [ref. 6401]). •Synonym of Dysichthys coracoideus Cope 1874, but a valid subspecies -- (Mees 1989:216 [ref. 13383], Burgess & Finley 1996:167 [ref. 22901]). •See Le Bail et al. 2000:162 [ref. 24549]. •Valid as Bunocephalus amaurus Eigenmann 1912 -- (Burgess 1989:303 [ref. 12860], Friel in Reis et al. 2003:262 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:58 [ref. 29155], Cardoso 2010:612 [ref. 30972], Carvalho et al. 2015:509 [ref. 33972], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:[21] [ref. 35679], Taphorn et al. 2022:42 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Bunocephalus amaurus Eigenmann 1912. Aspredinidae: Aspredininae. Distribution: South America: coastal rivers between Orinoco and Amazon River mouths (Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
