Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:56 [ref. 12367], Böhlke 1984:23 [ref. 13621], Angulo et al. 2015:368 [ref. 35212]. •Valid as Melaniris chagresi (Meek & Hildebrand 1914) -- (Bussing 1987:157 [ref. 22927]). •Valid as Atherinella chagresi (Meek & Hildebrand 1914) -- (Chernoff 1986:92 [ref. 5848], Chernoff 1986:242 [ref. 5847], Bussing 1998:240 [ref. 24179], Chernoff 2003:1098 [ref. 27017], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:516 [ref. 27061], Angulo et al. 2023:56 [ref. 40676]). Current status: Valid as Atherinella chagresi (Meek & Hildebrand 1914). Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
