Holotype (unique): SMNS 1491. Type catalog: Fricke 1995:8 [ref. 28100], Fricke 2005:25 [ref. 29864]. Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1879:15, Pl. 3 (fig. 2) [ref. 4228]. •Valid as Parachanna africana (Steindachner 1879) -- (Bonou & Teugels 1985:278 [ref. 26743], Teugels et al. 1986:288 [ref. 6202], Teugels in Lévêque et al. 1992:656 [ref. 21590], Musikasinthorn & Taki 2001:320 [ref. 25558], Courtenay & Williams 2004:121 [ref. 27545], Teugels 2007:243 [ref. 30042], Rüber et al. 2019:[5] [ref. 36913], Fermon et al. 2022:228 [ref. 39448] with question). Current status: Valid as Parachanna africana (Steindachner 1879). Channidae. Distribution: Western-central Africa: Ghana, Benin and Nigeria. Habitat: freshwater.
