Syntypes and/or Day specimens: AMS I.139 (1); BMNH 1870.5.2.2-3 (2) Wynaad, 1970.9.30.17 (1); MCZ 4310 (1) Canara; MNHN 0000-9358 [or 9858] (1); ZMB 8985 (1); ZSI 818-23 (6), 1886 (1), A.30 (1, lost), A.42 (1, lost). Type catalog: Whitehead & Talwar 1976:159 [ref. 23762], Bauchot & Desoutter 1987:71 [ref. 12478], Ferraris et al. 2000:303 [ref. 25110]. On p. 1 of separate. Named after H. E. Thomas of the Indian Fisheries, so correct name would be thomasi [ICZN Art. 32.5.1], but Day named three species after him, always as thomassi, so spelling probably intended.
