Syntypes: (2) BMNH 1855.12.26.539 (1). •Valid as Hemicaranx bicolor (Günther 1860) -- (Daget & Smith-Vaniz 1986:315 [ref. 6207], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1990:739 [ref. 18644] with a holotype, Bauchot in Lévêque et al. 1992:680 [ref. 21590], Smith-Vaniz 2003:1449 [ref. 27083], Springer & Smith-Vaniz 2008:30 [ref. 31826], Smith-Vaniz in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2490 [ref. 34618], Reiner 2019:196 [ref. 38139], Fermon et al. 2022:239 [ref. 39448]). Current status: Valid as Hemicaranx bicolor (Günther 1860). Carangidae: Caranginae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Sierra Leone south to Angola, including São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: brackish, marine.
