Syntypes: ZIN 7353 (4, not present in 1996). Combined with a feminine genus, the adjective should be microcephala. •Valid as Herzensteinia microcephalus (Herzenstein 1891) -- (Tsao 1964:193 [ref. 13501], Zhang et al. 1995:123 [ref. 22734], Zhu 1995:95 [ref. 25213], Chen & Huang in Chen 1998:245 [ref. 23556], Chen & Cao et al. in Yue 2000:389 [ref. 25272], Zhang et al. 2016:118 [ref. 34477]). •Valid as Schizopygopsis microcephala Herzenstein 1891 -- (Tang et al. 2019:10 [ref. 36511] as microcephalus). Current status: Valid as Schizopygopsis microcephala Herzenstein 1891. Cyprinidae: Schizopygopsinae. Distribution: East Asia: upper Yangtze River basin, China [up to an elevation of 5,350 meters]. Habitat: freshwater.
