nigri, Serranus Günther [A.] 1859:112 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 1; ref. 1961] Niger River mouth. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1847.4.4.5. Also listed was Plate IX. fig. A, but on preface p. vi it is stated, "The Plates referred to, and executed by Mr. Ford, will be published as a separate volume." Distribution: Mediterranean Sea: Malta; eastern Atlantic: Canary Islands; Senegal south to Angola, including Madeira (Portugal), Canary Islands (Spain), and São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: brackish, marine.
