Syntypes: (several) BMNH 1895.5.27.203-206 [from Jordan] (4). •Synonym of Gerres cinereus (Walbaum 1792) -- (Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:310 [ref. 24550]). •Valid as Gerres simillimus Regan 1907 -- (Angulo et al. 2013:1002 [ref. 33194], Galván-Villa et al. 2016:146 [ref. 34871], Romero-Berny et al. 2018:91 [ref. 35859], García-Rodríguez 2019:[12] [ref. 36709], González-Murcia et al. 2019:303 [ref. 36544], Love et al. 2021:161 [ref. 39279], Angulo et al. 2023:73 [ref. 40676], Siccha-Ramirez et al. 2023:297 [ref. 40816], Vela-Espinosa et al. 2023:10 [ref. 40981]). Current status: Valid as Gerres simillimus Regan 1907. Gerreidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Baja California and central Gulf of California (Mexico) south to Panama, including Galápagos Islands (Ecuador). Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
