Syntypes: AMS A.17824 (1); A.17819 (destroyed), A.17820-22 (3), A.17823 (destroyed), A.17824 (1); QM I.2384 (1). •Valid as Therapon fuliginosus Macleay 1883 -- (Roberts 1978:55 [ref. 8886]). •Valid as Hephaestus fuliginosus (Macleay 1883) -- (Vari 1978:280 [ref. 4514], Paxton et al. 1989:533 [ref. 12442], Larson & Martin 1990:47 [ref. 16606], Allen 1991:123 [ref. 21090], Allen & Pusey 1999:157 [ref. 24291], Unmack 2001:1063 [ref. 25797], Allen et al. 2002:222 [ref. 25930], Allen et al. 2006:1335 [ref. 29004], Larson et al. 2013:160 [ref. 32988], Pusey et al. 2017:62 [ref. 35250]). •See Hephestus species -- (Allen et al. 2008:1230 [ref. 30265]). Current status: Valid as Hephaestus fuliginosus (Macleay 1883). Terapontidae. Distribution: Australia (not including Papua New Guinea). Habitat: freshwater.
