Holotype (unique): MNHN B-2163 (dry). Type catalog: Bauchot 1970:48 [ref. 20740], Bauchot & Desoutter 1987:102 [ref. 12478] but they did not treat MNHN B.2163 as type. Based on the "Aspro dorso dipterygio caerulescente" of Commerson 1767-1771:1-8 [179-186] [ref. 41292], with one underlaying specimen in MNHN, which in fact is the type contrary to Bauchot & Desoutter's interpretation. •Valid as Kuhlia caudavittata (Lacepède 1802) -- (Maugé 1986:307 [ref. 6218], Fricke 1999:217 [ref. 24106], Heemstra et al. 2004:3318 [ref. 27945], Loiselle & Stiassny 2007:2 [ref. 31576], Fricke et al. 2009:50 [ref. 30213], Fricke et al. 2018:245 [ref. 35805], Arndt & Fricke 2019:18 [ref. 36883], Heemstra 2022:28 [ref. 39742], Fricke et al. 2024:75 [ref. 41255]). Current status: Valid as Kuhlia caudavittata (Lacepède 1802). Kuhliidae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: Madagascar; Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
