Lectotype established by Fowler 1918:46 [ref. 11665]. •Synonym of Lepomis megalotis (Rafinesque 1820) -- (Smith 1986:304 [ref. 22186]). •Synonym of Lepomis megalotis (Rafinesque 1820), but a valid subspecies -- (Gilbert 1998:246 [ref. 23395], Scott & Crossman 1998:725 [ref. 24570], Scharpf 2008:16 [ref. 30399]). •Valid as Lepomis peltastes Cope 1870 -- (Bailey et al. 2004:183 [ref. 27882], Page & Burr 2011:500 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:135 [ref. 32708], Kim et al. 2021:[2] 274 [ref. 40747], Page et al. 2023:171 [ref. 40505]).
