Also appeared as Gilbert in Gilbert & Starks 1904:138, Pl. 21 (fig. 42) [ref. 1639] with corrections for original description; and with lectotype established by use of "type specimen" in caption to Fig. 42 if the specimen was part of the 3 mentioned with the original description and is identifiable. •Valid as Pareques viola (Gilbert 1898) -- (Allen & Robertson 1994:167 [ref. 22193], Bussing & López S. 1994:132 [ref. 23101], Chao in Fischer et al. 1995:1498 [ref. 22830], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:319 [ref. 24555], Nelson et al. 2004:148 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:153 [ref. 32708], Parenti 2020:42 [ref. 37439], Siccha-Ramirez et al. 2023:408 [ref. 40816], Vela-Espinosa et al. 2023:11 [ref. 40981]). Current status: Valid as Pareques viola (Gilbert 1898). Sciaenidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Panama south to Peru. Habitat: marine.
