Paratypes: CAS-SU 20654 (2). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:77 [ref. 12291]. Originally as verae-crucis. •Synonym of Bairdiella ronchus (Cuvier 1830) -- (Chao 1978:39 [ref. 6983], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:384 [ref. 24550]). •Valid as Bairdiella veraecrucis Jordan & Dickerson 1908 -- (Marceniuk et al. 2019:14 [ref. 36684], Parenti 2020:9 [ref. 37439], Fricke et al. 2024:639 [ref. 41622], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2025:suppl. Tab. 1, p. 38 [ref. 42574]). Current status: Valid as Bairdiella veraecrucis Jordan & Dickerson 1908. Sciaenidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: southern Gulf of Mexico (Mexico) endemic. IUCN (2020): Least Concern. Habitat: brackish, marine.
