Replacement name for Apogon nigripes Ogilby 1911, preoccupied by Apogon nigripes Playfair 1867. •Valid as Apogon atripes (Ogilby 1916) -- (Kuiter 1993:155 [ref. 23929], Johnson 1999:732 [ref. 25471], Hutchins 2001:31 [ref. 25847]). •Synonym of Apogon nigripinnis Cuvier 1828 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:549 [ref. 12442], Gon 2000:7 [ref. 26650], Allen et al. 2006:1092 [ref. 29004]). •Valid as Apogonichthyoides atripes (Ogilby 1916) -- (Fraser & Allen 2010:44 [ref. 30717], Fraser 2010:94 [ref. 30909], Fraser & Allen 2011:68 [ref. 31605], Mabuchi et al. 2014:202 [ref. 33426], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:157 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Apogonichthyoides atripes (Ogilby 1916). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: tropical Australia, south to Sydney (New South Wales). Habitat: marine.
