Syntypes: RMNH 5602 (11). Appeared first without description in 1865:188 [ref. 414] and with confusion as "Apogon multilineatus CV" was in error. Corrected and described as above. •Valid as Apogon multilineatus (Bleeker 1874) -- (Allen 1993:16 [ref. 20779], Allen 1997:108 [ref. 23977], Allen 1999:2606 [ref. 24812], Allen 2000:100 [ref. 25868], Allen & Adrim 2003:35 [ref. 26830] dated to 1865, Kimura et al. in Kimura & Matsuura 2003:64 [ref. 27510]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus multilineatus (Bleeker 1874) -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:399 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2014:75 [ref. 33932], Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426], Fricke et al. 2019:135 [ref. 36673], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:121 [ref. 36965], Yoshida in Motomura et al. 2021:26 [ref. 38121], Allen & Erdmann 2024:424 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus multilineatus (Bleeker 1874). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Sumatra (Indonesia) east to New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), north to Philippines, south to Solomon Islands. Habitat: marine.
