Holotype (unique): BMNH 1922.1.13.37. •Synonym of Atrobucca nibe (Jordan & Thompson 1911) -- (Heemstra 1986:617 [ref. 5660], Sasaki & Kailola 1988:273 [ref. 12553]). •Valid as Sciaena marleyi Norman 1922 -- (Sasaki 1996:87 [ref. 22156]). •Valid as Atrobucca marleyi (Norman 1922) -- (Trewavas 1977:342 [ref. 4459], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S110 [ref. 27377], Parenti 2020:7 [ref. 37439], Sasaki 2022:397 [ref. 39862]). Current status: Valid as Atrobucca marleyi (Norman 1922). Sciaenidae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Mozambique. Habitat: marine.
