Holotype (unique): RMNH 5603. •Valid as Apogon wassinki Bleeker 1860 -- (Randall & Kulbicki 1998:31 [ref. 23411], Allen in Randall & Lim 2000:614 [ref. 25122], Allen 2000:101 [ref. 25868], Hutchins 2001:32 [ref. 25847], Allen & Adrim 2003:36 [ref. 26830], Allen et al. 2006:1097 [ref. 29004]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus wassinki (Bleeker 1860) -- (Randall 2005:208 [ref. 28239], Allen & Erdmann 2012:405 [ref. 31980], Mabuchi et al. 2014:201 [ref. 33426], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:107 [ref. 36965], Moore et al. 2020:109 [ref. 37357], Yoshida in Motomura et al. 2021:26 [ref. 38121], Fraser et al. 2022:203 [ref. 39752] as cf. wassinki, Allen & Erdmann 2024:429 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus wassinki (Bleeker 1860). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Malaysia and Bali (Indonesia) east to Philippines, south to Western Australia. Habitat: marine.
