Holotype (unique): destroyed in 1906 fire. •Valid as Apogon maculiferus Garrett 1864 -- (Randall 1998:34 [ref. 23433], Mundy 2005:355 [ref. 28379]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus maculiferus (Garrett1864) -- (Randall 2007:215 [ref. 30952], Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:126 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus maculiferus (Garrett 1864). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Northern-central Pacific: Hawaiian Islands (U. S. A.). Habitat: marine.
