rueppellii, Apogon Günther [A.] 1859:236 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 1; ref. 1961] Australian seas. Syntypes: (3) BMNH 1858.12.27.30 (1 stuffed), 1858.12.27.33 (1 stuffed), 1972.6.8.2 (1). Originally as rüppellii, corrected to rueppellii Kullander 2016:95 [ref. 34436]. Also listed was Plate XV. fig. B, but on preface p. vi it is stated, "The Plates referred to, and executed by Mr. Ford, will be published as a separate volume." •Valid as Apogon rueppellii Günther 1859 -- (Allen & Swainston 1988:66 [ref. 25477] as rupelli, Paxton et al. 1989:550 [ref. 12442], Larson & Williams 1997:357 [ref. 23967], Allen 1997:102 [ref. 23977] as rueppelli, Kuiter 1997:148 [ref. 25488] as ruepelli, Randall & Fraser 1999:631 [ref. 24563] as rueppelli, Allen 1999:2606 [ref. 24812] as ruepelli, Hutchins 2001:32 [ref. 25847], Fraser 2006:140 [ref. 28665], Allen et al. 2006:1094 [ref. 29004]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus rueppellii (Günther 1859) -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:403 [ref. 31980], Larson et al. 2013:113 [ref. 32988], Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426], Hoschke et al. 2019:155 [ref. 36626], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:103 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus rueppellii (Günther 1859). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Western Pacific and southeastern Indian Ocean: Western Australia, Northern Territory (Australia) and Papua New Guinea. Habitat: brackish, marine.
