schomburgkii, Pachyurus Günther [A.] 1860:282 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 2; ref. 1963] Rio Capin [= Capim], Pará State, and Caripe Pará, Brazil. Syntypes: (2) BMNH 1849.11.8.22 (1) Rio Capin [= Capim]. Günther 1860 lists two localities in his original description, therefore there are 2 syntypes; the "holotype" listed by Casatti 2001:146 [ref. 25918] apparently formed most or all of the description, but it is still a syntype; under proper circumstances it should be designated the lectotype. •Valid as Pachyurus schomburgkii Günther 1860 [sometimes seen as schomburgki] -- (Chao 1978:43 [ref. 6983], Ortega & Vari 1986:20 [ref. 9708], Soares & Casatti 2000:511 [ref. 24955], Casatti 2001:145 [ref. 25918], Casatti & Chao 2002:5 [ref. 26002], Casatti in Reis et al. 2003:600 [ref. 27061], Casatti & Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:88 [ref. 27192], Sarmiento et al. 2014:133, 189 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:103 [ref. 35633], Parenti 2020:38 [ref. 37439], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:27 [ref. 39298], Koerber et al. 2022:82 [ref. 39235], Lasso et al. in Lasso & Morales-Betancourt 2022:280 [ref. 40783]). Current status: Valid as Pachyurus schomburgkii Günther 1860. Sciaenidae. Distribution: South America: Amazon and Orinoco River basins (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela).
