Syntypes: MNHN 0000-6219 (1), 9806 (1, dry), A-7848 (1, dry), A-7849 (1, dry). Type catalog: Bauchot et al. 1983:66 [ref. 21545]. Preceded by the unused name Dentex unispinosus Bowdich 1825, which was declared a nomen oblitum (see Parenti 2019:93 [ref. 36892]); therefore reversal of precedence. •Valid as Lethrinus atlanticus Valenciennes 1830 -- (Sato 1978:44 [ref. 8884], Roux 1990:789 [ref. 18781], Carpenter in Carpenter & Allen 1989:50 [ref. 13577], Afonso et al. 1999:75 [ref. 25466], Wirtz et al. 2007:34 [ref. 30263], Wirtz et al. 2013:125 [ref. 32972], Carpenter in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2565 [ref. 34618], Almeida & Alves 2019:270 [ref. 37097]). Current status: Valid as Lethrinus atlanticus Valenciennes 1830. Lethrinidae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Senegal south to Congo, including Cape Verde Islands and São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: marine.
