Holotype (unique): BMNH 1918.1.31.10 (skin in alcohol). •Valid as Calamus taurinus (Jenyns 1840) -- (Allen & Robertson 1994:156 [ref. 22193], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:416 [ref. 24023], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:365 [ref. 24555], Thomson et al. 2000:132 [ref. 25640], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:192 [ref. 30957], Parenti 2019:76 [ref. 36892], Grove et al. 2022:20 [ref. 41326]). Current status: Valid as Calamus taurinus (Jenyns 1840). Sparidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) endemic. IUCN (2014): Near Threatened. Habitat: marine.
