Castelnau material: (dry) Type catalog: Bauchot & Daget 1972:45 [ref. 20898]. •Valid as Chrysoblephus gibbiceps (Valenciennes 1830) -- (Smith & Smith 1986:584 [ref. 5710], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:218 [ref. 28072], Parenti 2019:76 [ref. 36892], Russell & van Oijen 2021:428 [ref. 38177], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:296 [ref. 39785]). Current status: Valid as Chrysoblephus gibbiceps (Valenciennes 1830). Sparidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
