affinis, Pagellus Boulenger [G. A.] 1888:659 [Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1887 (pt 4); ref. 14479] Muscat, Oman, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, northwestern Indian Ocean. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1851.10.26.26 or 1887.11.11.144 (stuffed). A second specimen (skin) was mentioned in passing and not regarded as a type. •Valid as Pagellus affinis Boulenger 1888 -- (Bauchot & Bauchot 1983:1136 [ref. 35088], Randall 1995:227 [ref. 22896], Carpenter et al. 1997:182 [ref. 23922], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S109 [ref. 27377], Amir et al. 2013:222 [ref. 32960], Siddiqui at al. 2014:86 [ref. 33479], Fricke et al. 2014:1 [ref. 33592], Psomadakis et al. 2015:263 [ref. 34104], Eagderi et al. 2019:114 [ref. 37020], Parenti 2019:65 [ref. 36892], Zajonz et al. 2019:80 [ref. 36871], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:304 [ref. 39785], Zajonz et al. 2022:183 [ref. 40522]). Current status: Valid as Pagellus affinis Boulenger 1888. Sparidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: northern Somalia, Gulf of Aden, Socotra (Yemen) and Persian Gulf east to Pakistan and India. Habitat: marine.
