Holotype (unique): BMNH 1968.3.11.10 or 11 (dry half skins). Type information: Whitehead 1970:214 [ref. 11606]. Apparently the smaller specimen (about 170 mm SL) is probably the holotype based on note in bottle by J. E. Randall. •Valid as Parupeneus biaculeatus (Richardson 1846) -- (Randall in Randall & Lim 2000:622 [ref. 25122], Sadovy & Cornish 2000:146 [ref. 25480], Randall 2001:3180 [ref. 26109], Randall 2004:14 [ref. 28086], Nakae in Kimura et al. 2018:191 [ref. 36460], Sonoyama et al. 2020:76 [ref. 37637], Nakashimada et al. 2021:11 [ref. 38485], Echreshavi et al. 2022:7 [ref. 39234]). Current status: Valid as Parupeneus biaculeatus (Richardson 1846). Mullidae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Vietnam and southern China north to Nagasaki Prefecture (Japan) and southern Sea of Japan. Habitat: marine.
