Current status: Valid as Australoheros acaroides (Hensel 1870). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Laguna dos Patos basin and coastal streams draining to the Laguna Mirím, Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) and Uruguay. Habitat: freshwater.
