Holotype: ZUMT ABE 8015. Paratypes: ZUMT AKE 8016 (1, skeleton), ZUMT 2079 (1), 29800-03 (4), 29804 (1), 66910 (1, ex ZUMT 2079). Type catalog: Aizawa et al. 2025:195 [ref. 42287]. •Valid as Fugu obscurus (Abe 1949) -- (Zheng 1989:381 [ref. 21202], Zhu 1995:191 [ref. 25213], Cheng & Zhou 1997:489 [ref. 26385], Wang et al. 2001:341 [ref. 26566]). •Valid as Takifugu obscurus (Abe 1949) -- (Lindberg et al. 1997:118 [ref. 23547], Kim 1997:504 [ref. 24032], Matsuura in Randall & Lim 2000:649 [ref. 25122], Nakabo 2000:1423 [ref. 25182], Ebert 2001:78 [ref. 25494], Kim & Park 2002:424 [ref. 25913], Nakabo 2002:1423 [ref. 26193], Choi et al. 2003:453, 699 [ref. 26218], Kim et al. 2020:203 [ref. 39118], Aizawa et al. 2025:195 [ref. 42287]). Current status: Valid as Takifugu obscurus (Abe 1949). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Western Pacific. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
