Type catalog: Blanc 1962:211 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:45 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Protomelas labridens (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:45 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:389 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:294 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Protomelas labridens (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
