Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.1763. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1935.6.14.1760-1762 (3), 1935.6.14.1764-1768 (5), 1935.6.14.1769 (1); MNHN 1937-0215 [ex BMNH] (1). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:211 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:180 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Ctenopharynx nitidus (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:180 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:60 [ref. 20944], Snoeks & Nyasulu 2004:94 [ref. 28113], Konings 2016:346 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Ctenopharynx nitidus (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
