Type catalog: Blanc 1962:211 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:246 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Buccochromis oculatus (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:246 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:30 [ref. 20944], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:269 [ref. 28117]). •Synonym of Buccochromis nototaenia (Boulenger 1902) -- (Konings 2016:423 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Buccochromis oculatus (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
