Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.1448. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1935.6.14.1445-1447 (3), 1935.6.14.1449-1452 (4). Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:249 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Buccochromis spectabilis (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:248 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:31 [ref. 20944], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:271 [ref. 28117], Konings 2016:356 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Buccochromis spectabilis (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
