Lectotype: BMNH 1921.9.6.147. Paralectotypes: (4 + 1 skeleton) BMNH 1921.9.6.148 (1). Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:224 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Maravichromis sphaerodon (Regan 1922) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:222 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:257 [ref. 20944]). •Valid as Mylochromis sphaerodon (Regan 1922) -- (Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:287 [ref. 28117], Konings 2016:337 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Mylochromis sphaerodon (Regan 1922). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
