Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:253 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Champsochromis spilorhynchus (Regan 1922) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:252 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:40 [ref. 20944], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:273 [ref. 28117], Konings 2016:308 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Champsochromis spilorhynchus (Regan 1922). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi and the upper Shiré River. Habitat: freshwater.
