Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.1609. Paralectotypes: (95) BMNH 1935.6.14.1594-1596 (3), 1935.6.14.1597-1602 (11), 1935.6.14.1603-1608 (6) 1935.6.14.1610-1613 (6); MNHN 1937-0205 and 0206 [ex BMNH] (3). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:212 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:171 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Otopharynx tetraspilus (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:171 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:350 [ref. 20944], Cleaver et al. 2009:166 [ref. 30418], Konings 2016:304 [ref. 34521], Oliver 2018:195 [ref. 36257]). Current status: Valid as Otopharynx tetraspilus (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
