Syntypes: USNM 16676 (1), 16677 (now 1), 116372 [ex 16677] (1); 1 specimen apparently missing. Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:33 [ref. 19022]. Second specimen ("young") in original USNM 16677 recataloged as different species and different family as USNM 116372; perhaps a specimen switch is involved. •Valid as Piabucina panamensis Gill 1877 -- (Bussing 1998:125 [ref. 24179], Weitzman & Weitzman in Reis et al. 2003:247 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Lebiasina panamensis (Gill 1877) -- (Géry & Zarske 2002:39 [ref. 26555], Ardila Rodríguez 2010:6 [ref. 31719], Netto-Ferreira et al. 2011:774 [ref. 31718], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:44 [ref. 35633], Netto-Ferreira 2024:383 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Lebiasina panamensis (Gill 1877). Lebiasinidae: Lebiasininae. Distribution: Central America: canal zone, Panama. Habitat: freshwater.
