Eccles & Trewavas 1989:240 [ref. 13547] referred one syntype (as BMNH 1908.10.27.381) to Buccochromis lepturus and treated the second syntype as the holotype of rhoadesii (as BMNH 1908.10.27.38); the latter was designated lectotype by Eschmeyer 1998:1446 [ref. 23416]. •Valid as Buccochromis rhoadesii (Boulenger 1908) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:241 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:31 [ref. 20944], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:271 [ref. 28117], Konings 2016:356 [ref. 34521]).
