Holotype (unique): BMNH 1901.1.28.21. Pelmatochromis taeniatus Boulenger 1902:53, Pl. 16 [ref. 562] apparently is independent and a homonym. •Valid as Pelvicachromis taeniatus (Boulenger 1901) -- (Daget 1991:365 [ref. 20947], Lévèque et al. 1991:145 [ref. 31367], Teugels & Thys van den Audenaerde in Lévêque et al. 1992:733 [ref. 21590], Lamboj 2001:72 [ref. 28829], Lamboj 2004:12 [ref. 27572], Stiassny et al. 2007:319 [ref. 30045], Lamboj 2009:48 [ref. 30314], Lamboj & Pichler 2012:62 [ref. 32129], Lamboj et al. 2015:216 [ref. 33539]). Current status: Valid as Pelvicachromis taeniatus (Boulenger 1901). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: West-central Africa: Benin and Nigeria. Habitat: freshwater.
