Lectotype: BMNH 2011.7.21.1. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1899.9.26.78-79 (2). •Synonym of Hepsetus odoe (Bloch 1794) -- (Roberts 1984:138 [ref. 6182], Zengeya et al. 2011:1741 [ref. 32575]). •Valid as Hepsetus microlepis (Boulenger 1901) -- (Decru et al. 2015:281 [ref. 34058], Decru et al. 2017:625 [ref. 35508], Stiassny et al. 2021:1687 [ref. 39000], Decru 2024:370 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Hepsetus microlepis (Boulenger 1901). Hepsetidae. Distribution: Central Africa: Lake Chad region and Congo River basin, Democratic Republic of Congo. Habitat: freshwater.
