Paugy 1986:52 [ref. 32545] mentions two subspecies, A. baremoze soudaniensis and A. baremoze eburneensis, both names not available (no types). •Valid as Alestes baremoze (Joannis 1835) -- (Paugy 1984:141 [ref. 6183], Lévêque et al. 1989:115 [ref. 26480], Paugy in Lévêque et al. 1990:204 [ref. 21589], Lévèque et al. 1991:139 [ref. 31367], Dankwa et al. 1999:19 [ref. 28023], Seegers et al. 2003:35 [ref. 28087], Stiassny et al. 2009:113 [ref. 30059], Neumann et al. 2016:305 [ref. 35036], Akoth et al. 2023:11 [ref. 40069]). Current status: Valid as Alestes baremoze (Joannis 1835). Alestidae. Distribution: Africa: Senegal, western Africa to the Nile. Habitat: freshwater.
