Syntypes: BMNH 1866.3.8.11 (1) Lagos, 1903.4.24.152-153 (2) Gold Coast, 1903.4.24.154-155 (2) Gold Coast. •Valid as Alestes brevis Boulenger 1903 -- (Paugy 1984:143 [ref. 6183] wrongly with a holotype). •Valid as Brycinus brevis (Boulenger 1903) -- (Paugy in Lévêque et al. 1990:220 [ref. 21589], Dankwa et al. 1999:19 [ref. 28023], Stiassny et al. 2023:599 [ref. 40595], Boden & Geelhand de Merxem 2024:26 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Brycinus brevis (Boulenger 1903). Alestidae. Distribution: West Africa: southern Ghana and southern Nigeria. Habitat: freshwater.
