Available from footnote as, "Ch. decussatus, N., Russel, 53; et Klein., Miss., IV, ix, 2." Also in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1831:54 [ref. 4881]. Specimen (MNHN A-2691) listed by Bauchot 1963:120-121 [ref. 20718] as holotype is not a type but the specimen from the 1831 description. •Valid as Chaetodon decussatus Cuvier 1829 -- (Burgess 1978:591 [ref. 700], Allen 1980:161 [ref. 22764], Hutchins 2001:265 [ref. 25841], Hutchins 2001:36 [ref. 25847], Pyle 2001:3239 [ref. 26117] dated 1831, Allen & Adrim 2003:42 [ref. 26830] dated 1831, Smith et al. 2003:303 [ref. 27125], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S111 [ref. 27377], Mishra & Krishnan 2003:40 [ref. 27712], Allen et al. 2006:1290 [ref. 29090] dated 1831, Hobbs et al. 2007:108 [ref. 29249], Satapoomin 2009:184 [ref. 30463], Allen & Erdmann 2012:521 [ref. 31980]). Current status: Valid as Chaetodon decussatus Cuvier 1829. Chaetodontidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean: Yemen and Oman, Sri Lanka and Maldives, Andaman Sea east to Flores (Indonesia); also Christmas Island. Habitat: marine.
