Lectotype designated by Bogorodsky et al. 2016:466 [ref. 34697]. •Synonym of Cheilinus fasciatus (Bloch 1791) -- (Dor 1984:197 [ref. 29757] with a holotype, Parenti & Randall 2000:8 [ref. 24943]). •Valid as Cheilinus quinquecinctus Rüppell 1835 -- (Kuiter 2010:173 [ref. 35285], Bogorodsky et al. 2016:461 [ref. 34697], DiBattista et al. 2015:21 [ref. 35706], Bogorodsky & Randall 2018:[5] 243 [ref. 36492], Golani & Fricke 2018:123 [ref. 36273], Randall & Victor 2022:184 [ref. 39916]). Current status: Valid as Cheilinus quinquecinctus Rüppell 1835. Labridae. Distribution: Red Sea, northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden. Habitat: marine.
