Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 32 (no. 22); ref. 18871] Rio Guaporé, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Lectotype: NMW 56396. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1928.1.24.10 [ex NMW] (1); NMW 56408 (1), 56410 (1), 56415 (1). Lectotype selected by Zarske & Géry 1999:176 [ref. 23984]. Appeared in more detail in Kner 1860:26 [18 in separate], Pl. 2 (fig. 5) [ref. 7130]. Jégu in Reis et al. 2003:190 [ref. 27061] has confused the original genus of this species with the species appearing on p. 166 in Kner 1858. •Valid as Metynnis maculatus (Kner 1858) -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:8 [ref. 9708], Gómez & Chebez 1996:52 [ref. 23791], Zarske & Géry 1999:176 [ref. 23984], Britski et al. 1999:60 [ref. 24147], Lasso et al. 2001:96 [ref. 25928], Jégu in Reis et al. 2003:184 [ref. 27061], Zarske & Géry 2008:185 [ref. 29917], Pavanelli et al. 2009:141 [ref. 30246], Mirande 2010:473 [ref. 31006], Barriga S. 2014:108 [ref. 35745], Ota et al. 2016:11 [ref. 35002], Sarmiento et al. 2014:89, 187 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:[2] [ref. 35679]). Current status: Valid as Metynnis maculatus (Kner 1858). Serrasalmidae. Distribution: Amazon and Paraguay River basins: Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay (?) and Peru (?). Habitat: freshwater.
