Holotype (unique): AMNH 2536. •Synonym of Stathmonotus stahli (Evermann & Marsh 1899), but a valid subspecies -- (Greenfield & Johnson 1981:46 [ref. 5580], Cavulluzzi 1997:146 [ref. 23511], Williams 2003:1767 [ref. 27109]). •Synonym of Stathmonotus stahli (Evermann & Marsh 1899) -- (Hastings & Springer 1994:21 [ref. 21894]). •Valid as Stathmonotus tekla Nichols 1910 -- (Patzner et al. 2009:471 [ref. 30396], Hastings & Springer 2009:8 [ref. 31156], Page et al. 2013:172 [ref. 32708], Kim & Hastings 2013:8 [ref. 33286] in Labrisomidae, Martínez-Servín et al. 2023:112 [ref. 40726], Page et al. 2023:157 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Stathmonotus tekla Nichols 1910. Labrisomidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: including Caribbean Sea. Habitat: marine.
