Type catalog: Bauchot & Guibé 1960:293 [ref. 20736]. •Valid as Scarus cyanescens Valenciennes 1840 -- (Randall & Bruce 1983:13 [ref. 5412], Randall 1986:712 [ref. 5706], Randall & Earle 1993:292 [ref. 14908]). •Valid as Chlorurus cyanescens (Valenciennes 1840) -- (Bellwood 1994:66 [ref. 19116], Randall & Anderson 1997:162 [ref. 23281], Fricke 1999:451 [ref. 24106], Parenti & Randall 2000:52 [ref. 24943], Heemstra et al. 2004:3326 [ref. 27945], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:359 [ref. 28072], Fricke et al. 2018:296 [ref. 35805], Randall 2022:271 [ref. 39936]). Current status: Valid as Chlorurus cyanescens (Valenciennes 1840). Labridae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: South Africa and East Africa (Tanzania) east to Madagascar and Mascarenes (Mauritius, Rodrigues). Habitat: marine.
