Paratypes: MCZ 37212 [ex USNM 121282] (1), USNM 121282 (4, now 3). Type catalog: Ferraris & Vari 1992:11 [ref. 19771], Ferraris 2007:80 [ref. 29155]. •Synonym of Trachycorystes insignis (Steindachner 1878), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Galvis et al. 1997:58 [ref. 23651]). •Synonym of Parauchenipterus insignis (Steindachner 1878), but a valid subspecies as described -- (González Bencomo et al. 1997:158 [ref. 24960]). •Valid as Trachelyopterus peloichthys (Schultz 1944) -- (Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:478 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:80 [ref. 29155], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:87 [ref. 35633], Calegari et al. 2019:[90] [ref. 36961]). Current status: Valid as Trachelyopterus peloichthys (Schultz 1944). Auchenipteridae: Auchenipterinae. Distribution: Maracaibo River basin, Venezuela and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
