Paratypes: MBUCV-V-10934 [ex USNM 121172] (1); MCZ [ex USNM 121173] (1); UMMZ 142489 [ex USNM 121172] (1); USNM 101614 (1), 121172 (17, now 16), 121173 (4, now 3). Type catalog: Ferraris & Vari 1992:36 [ref. 19771], Provenzano et al. 1998:14 [ref. 24196], Ferraris 2007:338 [ref. 29155]. •Synonym of Pimelodus grosskopfii Steindachner 1879, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Burgess 1989:279 [ref. 12860], Galvis et al. 1997:62 [ref. 23651]). •Valid as Pimelodus navarroi Schultz 1944 -- (Lundberg & Littmann in Reis et al. 2003:440 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:338 [ref. 29155], Azpelicueta et al. 2008:159 [ref. 29736], Ribeiro et al. 2011:128 [ref. 31238], Villa-Navarro et al. 2017:340 [ref. 35495], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:94 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Pimelodus navarroi Schultz 1944. Pimelodidae. Distribution: Lake Maracaibo basin: Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
