Paratypes: MCZ 37282 [ex USNM 121233] (1), USNM 121233 (5, now 4). Type catalog: Ferraris & Vari 1992:42 [ref. 19771], Ferraris 2007:421 [ref. 29155]. •Synonym of Trichomycterus emanueli (Schultz 1944), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Burgess 1989:322 [ref. 12860]). •Valid as Trichomycterus motatanensis (Schultz 1944) -- (de Pinna & Wosiacki in Reis et al. 2003:283 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:421 [ref. 29155], Ardila Rodríguez 2007:[9] [ref. 29569], Ardila Rodríguez 2011:[7] [ref. 32732], Ardila Rodríguez 2014:11 [ref. 33769], Ardila Rodríguez 2016:11 [ref. 34399], García-Melo et al. 2016:237 [ref. 34471], Ardila Rodríguez 2016:17 [ref. 35108], Ardila Rodríguez 2017:10 [ref. 35579], Ardila Rodríguez 2018:11 [ref. 35926]).
