Holotype: USNM 121052. Paratypes: USNM 101612 (1). Type catalog: Ferraris & Vari 1992:26 [ref. 19771]. •Valid as Chaetostoma tachiraense Schultz 1944 -- (Isbrücker 1980:64 [ref. 2303], Burgess 1989:436 [ref. 12860], Galvis et al. 1997:73 [ref. 23651], Isbrücker 2001:26 [ref. 25653], Isbrücker 2002:13 [ref. 27178], Fisch-Muller in Reis et al. 2003:382 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:230 [ref. 29155], Lujan et al. 2015:666 [ref. 33975], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:80 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Chaetostoma tachiraense Schultz 1944. Loricariidae: Hypostominae. Distribution: Catatumbo River basin in Lake Maracaibo drainage: Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
