Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:54 [ref. 12367], Ferraris & Vari 1992:29 [ref. 19771], Ferraris 2007:240 [ref. 29155]. •Synonym of Loricaria uracantha Kner 1863, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Galvis et al. 1997:93 [ref. 23651]). •Valid as Rineloricaria rupestris (Schultz 1944) -- (Isbrücker 1980:109 [ref. 2303], Isbrücker 1981:89 [ref. 5522], Burgess 1989:442 [ref. 12860], Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:344 [ref. 27061], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:78 [ref. 35633]). •Valid as Fonchiiichthys rupestris (Schultz 1944) -- (Isbrücker et al. 2001:19 [ref. 25649], Isbrücker 2001:27, 30 [ref. 25653], Isbrücker 2002:16 [ref. 27178], Ferraris 2007:240 [ref. 29155]). Current status: Valid as Rineloricaria rupestris (Schultz 1944). Loricariidae: Loricariinae. Distribution: Lake Maracaibo basin, Venezuela and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
